1. Ohio State:

Ohio State is the top team for 2026 according to CBS, and it's pretty clear why. They have a super strong roster with an awesome quarterback and the best wide receivers out there. They're ready to crush their opponents with their passing game. The only worry is if they can run the ball consistently and deal with a tough road schedule in the Big Ten. But hey, they look set for another great season with a shot at winning the conference!

 

2. Texas:

Texas is ranked #2, and people think they could be one of the best in the SEC this year. They’ve got a great quarterback and a powerful offensive line, which means they can play both fast-paced and tough football. Their defense is solid, but the secondary is a bit of a question mark against elite teams. They have an easier start to the season, so CBS thinks they can rack up 10 wins and maybe even fight for the SEC title.

3. Oregon:

Oregon's at #3, and they're predicted to be super strong in the Big Ten. They're a tough, veteran team with an NFL-ready quarterback and a great defense. They can really control games. The big challenge is going to be the tough Big Ten schedule. Still, CBS sees them finishing with 10 or 11 wins and staying in the national title conversation.

 

4. Notre Dame:

Notre Dame comes in at #4 and has a big game against Wisconsin to kick off the season. They've got a solid team with strong quarterback play, awesome offensive tackles, and a disciplined defense. Their weak spot might be at wide receiver depth, and they have some tricky games later. But CBS thinks they can be a solid team with a record of 10–2 or 11–1, which could get them a big bowl game.

5. Georgia:

Georgia is ranked #5, and they’re still scary in the SEC with their tough defense and talented players. They start with a practice game but have a brutal schedule after that. The tight ends are really good, and their defense will probably be one of the best again. If their quarterback plays well, they could have a great season with around 10 wins and stay in the top 10.

 

6. Indiana:

Indiana, the defending champs, is at #6. They’ve earned respect for how tough and disciplined they play. Their roster can handle close games really well. The only downside is that their quarterback isn’t as flashy compared to other top teams, and they have a tricky Big Ten schedule. Still, CBS expects them to be around 9–3 or 10–2, giving them a solid shot at the conference title.

7. Miami (FL):

Miami is ranked #7 and is seen as one of the top teams in the ACC, even with a tough opener at Stanford. They have fast players, a solid quarterback, and a strong defensive line. Their main concern is the secondary against top offenses. CBS thinks they’ve got enough talent to win around 10 games and fight for the ACC title.

 

8. Texas A&M:

Texas A&M sits at #8. They're expected to do well in the SEC, especially because their early schedule is pretty easy. They have a veteran quarterback and a solid defense. The offense has been shaky at times, but they should be able to get 9 or 10 wins and stay in the mix for the SEC.

9. Texas Tech:

Texas Tech is at #9 and is seen as the favorite in the Big 12. They have a powerful passing game and a coaching staff that has built a solid foundation. Their run defense needs to step up, but the schedule looks good for another double-digit win season. CBS thinks they could finish around 10–2 and go for the conference championship.

 

10. Oklahoma:

Oklahoma is starting the season at #10 and is expected to keep performing well in the SEC. They have strong quarterback play and creative offensive strategies. Their defense still has to prove it can handle the elite SEC offenses, but CBS sees them finishing with about 9 or 10 wins and staying in the top 10.

11. Alabama:

Alabama is ranked #11, which is a little lower than usual, but they are still one of the best teams. They have a solid defense, great running backs, and one of the toughest home games in college football. The big question mark is at quarterback, plus they have a really hard schedule. But CBS thinks Alabama can still end up around 9–3 and be a key player in the conference.

 

12. Ole Miss:

Finally, Ole Miss comes in at #12 and is expected to be a top SEC team with a powerful offense. They have good quarterback play and a creative system, plus experienced wide receivers. However, their defense may struggle against other top SEC teams, especially with several tough away games. CBS projects them to finish around 8–4 or 9–3 and stay competitive in the SEC West.
