Where does the MLS rank among the rest of the leagues in the world? Well lets talk about it. In the world of football/soccer Europe is the utopia for soccer leagues. It is home to 55 professional leagues, and out of those 55 there are five leagues that reign superior over all the rest.

 

The English Premier League, Bundesliga Germany, La Liga Spain, Ligue 1 France, and Serie A in Italy. All leagues have different play styles unique to each other. An example would be the Premier League is known for being very fast paced, lots of running up and down the pitch while Bundesliga is a very physical league that can play slower. The Prem is the top step for most players, it's the most sought after.

These leagues started over a hundred years ago, they have experience and have built a huge reputation across the world. That is something the MLS does not have, well actually they do have a reputation.

 

The Retirement league. That's the big reputation the MLS has gained, and well it makes sense. While everyone and their mothers want to grow up to play for Man Untied in the Theater of Dreams, or be a part of that iconic blue and red of Barcelona. What happens is all these great players get old just like Roy Kent. All the sodden they cant hold their own in Europe so they take a plane down to the Americas for Major League Soccer. its a good move for them. they'll be the star that they are used to being, smaller stadiums, big money, smaller viewership, but they will be able to be as dominant as they were 5 years ago in Europe. But hey don't get me wrong there are some good players from the MLS. Buts its hard not to live up to their reputation when you just signed 37 soon to be 38 year old Robert Lewandowski. I really could go on and on about the players but you can look for yourself.

 

But ranking them against their peers we can go ahead and put the big five ahead of them. They are definitely the best team in the land found by Christopher Columbus which is North America but not a high bar to cross. So I'm going to make a super serious list of the leagues ranked till we get to the MLS.

I'm no expert on this just a guy with a computer listening to Jimmy Buffet. So, with all that being said I believe that the MLS has talent but I don't ever think that they will reach the top 5 nor the top 10. We just got started a little late. The MLS needs to get rid of their TV deal with apple TV first of all then the sky is the limit to be honest. I think America can be a soccer nation but its up to the MLS if they want to build that.
