MLB expansion is rumoured to be right around the corner, so here are my top 5 cities that I could see getting an MLB expansion team, starting with some honourable mentions!
HM #1. Mexico City, Mexico.
This is my true "wild card" of sorts. Now, this would most likely not happen, but Mexico has a strong baseball culture already. I mean, just look up some Mexican WBC games. And this would make 100 million plus people watch MLB, generating so much money for MLB, which would help so much in growing the game, and just renovating the Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu, home to the Diablos Rojos of the Mexican League, would provide an MLB-ready stadium.
HM #2 Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A
Nashville has proven it has a strong sports culture, with the Nashville Predators of the NHL being known for their loud, rowdy crowds and having an NFL team in the Tennessee Titans, but they are not known for their success. So I say, why not add an MLB team to the mix? You can go to a bar and listen to country music, then catch a ball game during the summer. Sounds pretty good to me, now let's take a look at my top 5.
Orlando, Florida, U.S.A.
Ah, yes, Orlando, home to Disney World. But could this team really get a Major League Baseball team? Well, let's look at the most popular pro sports team in the city: the NBA's Magic. The Magic made the playoffs last season, but blew it like the Yankees in Game 5 of the 2024 World Series. having a 3-1 series lead. Their attendance this year was in the mid-tier of the NBA. I could not find the exact numbers. Now, could I see an MLB team in Orlando? Yes, but I could see people visiting the city rather than going to Disney World, then a ball game in July, which is why I have them at 5
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
We all know that the MLB needs more teams on the West Coast, so why not give one to my home city of Vancouver? Now, for my guys from down south, you may be asking, what's so special about Vancouver? Well, first off, it is ranked as one of the most beautiful cities on Earth. And it's a sports city, despite Vancouver's NHL team, the Canucks, going through a rebuild, the building fills up regularly and provides a great atmosphere every night, and chants fill the building for players who perform to our expectations. We will even burn the city down if our team loses in the World Series. Do I see them getting an MLB team, only if it is privately funded cuz the BC government has better things to spend our money on.
Portland Oregon U.S.A
Portland is a city like Orlando with an NBA team. But unlike Orlando, they have great crowds. making the Moda Centre a fortress come playoff time. And since Portland does not have a big attraction like Disney World, I would say they have a great chance of getting an MLB team. The only big thing they would need is a roof like T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
Salt Lake City, Utah. U.S.A
Salt Lake City has proven they like sports in the NHL playoffs when the Mammoth made the playoffs, and from my POV seemed like they sold out every game. And the Jazz... well there best player ever is a pedo, so. Anyway, I'm very confident that this will be the MLB's top choice as this will get a team on the West Coast and continue the MLB movement to the desert. Joining Las Vegas and Arizona. But you may be asking, who do I have as my number 1?
Montréal, Québec, Canada.
In the early 2000s, Canada had the Expos ripped away from them, then moved them to Washington DC. A city filled with Rich white people who went to that one island in the Caribbean. From now on, Montreal and pretty much all of Canada have been pulling to get the Expos back. But no luck. Now, could MLB expansion coming soon bring a team back to Montreal? I think so. Here's why. People in Canada still where expos hats, including me. They still are a National brand of sorts, and I bet that the city of Montreal would be willing to fund the Expos.
Now, if you are not from Canada and are thinking, well, is Montreal a sports city? I'll just say, look up Montreal Canadiens playoff games. And you will see.
Bring the Expos back to Montreal!!
Thanks for reading my crappy article!
