Good morning or Good Evening, whenever you are viewing this,
Today I will be publishing my thoughts on this crazy Giannis trade, and why I think, like quite a few, the Bucks are set up for a good couple of the years, short and long term, and if Miami can't solve some of their problems, this trade only works short term (and it's sort of plug n play for me)
But first, let's list the contents of this trade:
The Bucks receive:
former 13th,15th,18th and 20th first round picks Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez and Kasparas Jakučionis
13th pick in the overall draft (Nate Ament)
2 first round picks in 2031 and 2033
pick swap in 2030
Second-round pick in 2033
WHILE all Miami receive is:
2x MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo
and former 22nd overall pick, Bobby Portis
Is Giannis worth the package?
Obviously to Miami, yes. 4 former first round picks plus 3 fresh picks? obviously. It will be exciting to see Bam and Giannis destroying the paint together and maybe get a little defense going with the former defensive player of the year. And a possible steady player in Bobby Portis. But that's it.
Miami might have an alternate point source problem
Does Miami have a true elite 3-point shooter. I understand that the Miami roster is somewhat capable, but the paint and mid-range is where I think we are going to see the majority of their points. Usually, the high 3-point percentage shooters have less attempts made on their team (which is a usual thing) except, a lot of Miami is like that, and while the traded players were not necessarily the top 5 scorers on their team, they usually were some of the other points, and they lost it. So, I would keep an eye on what Miami does next.
The future of the Bucks lies in Herro and these picks
The Bucks just had what I would call a long-term investment plan, with possibly massive dividends. Herro and the rest of the ex-heat players will probably be the leaders of this Buck's team for a while. Herro might become the face if he wants to live up to it. Though I hope the Bucks find another superstar to compliment them. This is where the picks are possibly the most clutch things ever for them. As a small market, the Bucks could follow in the OKC method or what Boston did. Slowly farm, pick some solid players, and become a nice playoff team. They might not be true contenders but could be a great team to watch. But this is great with the 2033 picks.
At that point, Giannis will probably not be generational, Bam will be slower, Bobby Porter will also just slowly die down. This is short term run, not slow tilling into a dynasty. I really do hope that Miami get that sorted out before Giannis completely diminishes as a problem, so that we can see another Miami run. But if they fail, we could see a top ten pick from the Bucks, that may or may not be already contending, to a true playoff contender.
Thanks for reading!!! I might do a pt 2 and will be posting a Timberwolves one too. This isn't the best, but not the worst, I hope.
