Olivia Miles was drafted at #2 by the Minnesota Lynx in this years WNBA draft. Looking at the pick now that we are inthe middle of the season she is far and away the Rookie Of The Year, having such a positive impact while being the facilitator of the Lynx offense while putting up great counting stats. She has a bit of a foul problem but it is not so big where its one of her main negative traits so all she really does is just help and help the Lynx on their journey to the best record in the WNBA. Some skeptics of Olivia Miles have pointed out that she has stars around her and that she went into a system with the greatest coach in WNBA history and that she had so much help. But if you look at the advanced analytics, in almost every stat she is the most impactful player in the keague besides Aja Wilson who is one od the vreates players of all time. For example, lets take a look at ESPN WAR which is a stat that is usually used for baseball but was transfered over to basketball the top 5 in the stat this season are as follows:
1. Aja Wilson: 5.7 WAR
2. Olivia Miles: 4.8 WAR
3. Rhyne Howard: 4.5 WAR
4. Kayla McBride: 4.5 WAR
5. Paige Bueckers: 4.3 WAR
She is on par with perenial All-Stars and some of the best players in the league and if you want to use the argument that this isnt a "real stat" than look at other advanced stats and you will still find that she is one of the best players and most valuable players in the league. While counting stats dont show it, advanced stats do. And i think that she is obviously Rookie of The Year. While she may not be the MVP, she will win multiple in her career and you can quote me on that. She is also a big help for the people that hate on the WNBA because she is undeniably very fun to watch with her elite passing and very good scoring at all levels when she is on her day. She can go band for band with the best in the league when she is at her best woth some of examples are when she had:
32 PTS, 8 REB, 8 AST
This was in a rookie duel against Flaujae Johnson where they both had 30+ PTS and they both showed up when their team needed them.
33 PTS, 3 REB, 8 AST
This was a game against the mercury and it was the first game people really started putting her in the MVP converstation and realized how good she was. While it was against one of the worst teams in the league it was a great performance.
Right now for rankings of players in the league i have her at #2 just based on the counting stats and impact she has on her team and she is definitely the best guard for me. I can see some people might not have her at 2 but if you dont have her top 5 you are insane.
