The Tigers have found there way back to the Premier League for the first time since 2016/2017!

How did they get here?

Despite many predicting Hull to get relegated and having the lowest xG out of all the Championship teams last season, the tigers have managed to get themselves promoted through the ever chaotic playoffs. With a drama filled final day in the EFL Championship Hull were able to beat Norwich City 2-1 on the final day. Of course with help from Wrexham drawing with Middlesbrough, 2-2 to put the Tigers two points clear and clinch the final spot in the promotion playoffs. On a 2-0 aggregate victory against Millwall Sergej Jakirovic’s men were through to the promotion final. Due to the ever famous “spy-gate” scandal Hull City’s opponents were changed from Southampton to Middlesbrough. In a 90+5 minute winner Oli McBurnie made Hulls Premier League dreams come true defeating Middlesbrough 1-0.

Transfers/Squad Overview:

Hull city have done a good amount of business but not to the tone of Premier League levels.

Arrivals ➡️:

Jack Butland arrives from Scottish Premiership side Rangers, Butland had 12 clean sheets in 38 matches and saving 4/6 penalties (€3.5m).

Hidemasa Mortia joins on a free from Sporting cp. The midfielder got 5 goals and assists in 31 matches for Sporting. Mortia looks to add aerial defense to the Hull City midfield.

Matt Targett also joins on a free but from Newcastle, on a season long loan at Middlesbrough Targett managed 8 goals and assists in 42 matches. Targett was used more as a wingback last season firing crosses into the box for the boro. Will be interesting how Hull City implement him.

Oscar Zambrano joins from Slovenian club NK Maribor. The midfielder bagged 2 goals in 7 matches last season.

Departures ⬅️:

Ivor Pandur, Hull cities first choice departs to Rangers. Pandur got 11 clean sheets in 45 matches for the Tigers (€7m).

Kyle Joseph departs to Middlesbrough, the striker bagged 8 goals for the Tigers last season (€4.7m).

Overall, still more businness to be done but signing a first choice keeper is a positive for the Tigers.

Squad overview

Keeper (s): Jack Butland arrives from Rangers to be Hull Cities first choice the former Crystal Palace man does have some Premier League experience under his belt. I dont think this is a Premier League standard keeper considering his age (33 years) and not having the best results with Palace. Overall, not very moved by this first choice maybe he will take a step up from his Crystal Palace days.

Defenders: The defense was a weak point for Hull City last year finishing in the bottom half of the championship in goals allowed. Charlie Hughes sticks out getting 2 goals and assists also blocking 56 shots for the Tigers in 38 matches. Ryan Giles and previously mentioned Matt Targett will duel it out for the starting left back position (dreadful really for the Premier league) I assume Targett would win the job. Lewie Coyle and Cody Drameh are the right backs for the Tigers. Lewie Coyle would be the starter with his superior 4 assists. Overall, yeah gotta make signings here asap defenitley will be in the lower half of the Premier League. Also very little Premier League experience here.

Midfield: Matt crooks was the standout last year getting 8 goals and assists last season with the Tigers, the defensive midfielder also got 67 tackles last year. New signing Hidemasa Morita will be interesting to see how he performs at the Premier League getting 5 goals and assists in Portugals first division. Abdülkadir Ömür joined late last season from Turkish 1st division side Antalyaspor which he got a assist last year in 25 matches for them. He was forced off with an injury in a friendly though. All the rest are depth pieces in my opinion. Overall, slightly better then the defense but its bad isnt it. Need to give the midfield a boost while the transfer window remains open. More Premier League experience preferably.

Forwards: Oli McBurnie was the star man for the Tigers bagging 17 goals last season including the promotion winning stoppage time winner. He shows shades of a Jamie Vardy in 2014-2015 Leicester, and Oli acts like him too. But, there is no Premier League experience at all and he is older at age 30. Liam Millar the Canadian is the left winger got 8 goals and assists last season in 33 matches. Mohamed Belloumi got 5 goals and assists last season in 22 matches for the Tigers primed to be their right winger over Babajide David. All the rest are depth pieces.

Table position: 20th could possibly rival Derby Counties record for the least amount of points in a Premier League campaign ever if im being brutally honest. Its just not good, they didnt improve one of the worst Championship defenses, midfield is not good, relying on Oli McBurnie to provide all your goals is a choice to say the least. Its just really shit isn’t it.
