How did Ipswich Town get back?

Getting 84 points in the EFL Championship proved what was necessary to get back in the English Top flight through automatic promotion. But, It wasnt all sunshine and rainbows in that campaign taking them till there 5th league match to secure 3 points. Automatic promotion wasn’t confirmed until the last matchday with a 3-0 pounding of QPR at home.

Business done over the summer/Squad Overview: Ipswich, as any newly promoted team has to do to survive the Premier League has brought in a good amount of transfers:

Emersson a striker from Toulouse bagging 7 goals in 32 matches in ligue 1. (Reported £24m).

Abdul Fatawu a winger from now League one side Leicester City who did fairly well in the championship with 16 G+A. (Around £20-25 million

Issa Diop a defender from Fulham with a good amount of first division experience (£8.5m)

Daizen Maeda: A forward from Celtic who banged in 14 goals last season to win the Scottish Premiership (£10m not officially announced by Ipswich/Celtic).

Kayne Van Oevelen, Fc Volendams first choice keeper that got relegated from Eredivisie, getting 3 clean sheets in 32 matches, set to be the Tractor Boys first choice. (£4m).

A good amount of business most notably Emersson and Daizen Maeda. I assume Ipswich would run two strikers with these signings. All can be very good but it all depends on how they transition to the prem.

Squad:

Keepers: Kayne van Oevelen would be the first choice so far. He is a 22 year old with much room to grow and develop. Others are just meh.

Defense: While it was a strong point in the championship T-2nd goals allowed. I think it wont be terrible in the prem but not very good. Issa Diop provides plenty of Premier League exposure which he performed ok not great. Ben Johnson is the next one with a good amount of experience with West Ham, he was good in the championship but not good enough to succeed in the Perm in my opinion. All of the rest are mainly 2nd division grinders. Need to bring in more to survive the Premier league.

Midfield: It dosent look good. Azor Matusiwa is the standout with 5 years of Ligue 1 experience coming off the bench not really accumulating any goals or assists (10 to be exact, so some). Played 46 matches for the tractor boys in the promotion winning campaign. Chuba Akpom would be standout gathering 18 goals and assists in the 2023-2024 season with Ajax. But, only gathering 2 goals in 31 matches in the Efl Championship last campaign (yikes). All of the rest dont interest me at all in the Premier League.

Forwards: Ipswich’s most strongest part of the pitch most notably Daizen Maeda the Japanese striker bagged 14 goals for Celtic to take over Hearts on the final day to secure the 10000th Scottish Premiership for Celtic. Even bagging a goal in the world cup for Japan. In my opinion this is the best player in the squad I think he will adjust well to the Premier league potentially getting 10+ goals. Abdul Fatawu also stands out gathering 16 goals and assists in Leicesters relegation campaign its not major but he is serviceable. Next the 22 year old Emersonn from Toulouse bagged 6 goals in Ligue 1 last year with plenty of room to grow. Whether Leicester start him or not there is some potential but will not produce 10 plus goals, not bad not great. I think Jaden Philogene-Bidace will be a good depth piece bagging 12 goals for the Tractor boys last season. Also Jack Clarke is notable with 16 goals in the championship last year. Overall the forwards are Ipswich’s strongest position and has the potential to get Ipswich some crucial points in the 26-27 season.

26/27 Prediction: I do think the Forwards do look pretty good for a newly promoted team but the rest, yikes. In my opinion I think the tractor boys will go down to the championship. Table position: 19th
