These are my rankings of the Top 5 moves of the NFL Offseason so far.
(These are all opinions I would love to hear yours in the comments!)
#5 - Steelers trading for Michael Pittman Jr.
This trade was a steal for the Steelers (poet and don't know it). The Steelers giving up a 6th for a 7th which already you are getting some guaranteed value back but also a WR who has had two 1,000 yard seasons and been a keep contributor to the Colts offense for some time. The Colts needing to get Alec Pierce back on contract made them do this as they would have been spending a lot on WR this offseason if they were to do this. The Steelers instead gave him a 3 year 19 million dollar deal and lock him in as a great WR to have next to DK and can play seperate roles to get this offense going again after a season in which was 22nd in the league is passing yards per game with only 213.6 per game on average.
#4 - Saints signing Travis Etienne Jr.
This signing when it happened made no sense for both sides until you truly look at both lineups. For the Jaguars a team that truly had a very good season and was looking to truly make a good playoff push giving up a veteran RB to Free Agency and in come the Saints who had one of the worst records in the league and struggle to do anything on either side of the ball... but if you look at both team comps then you realize why. For the Jags keeping him around ona big contract didnt make sense as they need a couple more pieces and with a deep RB room they are able to fill his slot for much cheaper. For the Saints they get a guy who is coming off his best season and truthfully held off a lot of rumors of a split backfield by having good play and efficent touches. He should be able to add a lot to a team with a young QB and an offense which is only getting better.
#3 - Raiders Hiring Klint Kubiak
This is a move which I didn't know if it counted butttttt its my list so I am gonna write about it. This is such a slam dunk hire in my opinion I think this is the best coaching move by a lot this offseason. The Raiders are getting a guy who can compete with the other teams in the AFC West and can truly revolutionize this new look offense with Mendoza and Jeanty. Pete Carroll was always meant to not be the long term option but coming off of that hire this is night and day. This Raiders team in 2 years will be compete for a wild card mark my words and it will be on the back of Kubiaks offense. The big question left is who will be the Raiders WR1 like Kubiak had at the Seahawks.
#2 - Rams trading for Myles Garrett
Soooooooo this trade feels illegal. The favorites for the Super Bowl being able to get the best defensive player in the league who just broke the sack record should not be possible... but it happened. The Browns in return got Jared Verse, a 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, and 3rd rounder. This haul at the end of the day is just not enough for a player of Myles Garrett's caliber. Myles Garrett is the kind of player that can change a team and trading him for a future when your team already has so many issues just doesn't make much sense. Myles Garrett has kept your team floating for all these years and you just ship him off for pennies and a potential for good players. For the Rams this is the most obvious trade they could make. Stafford only has maybe 2-3 years left and with him you can win so maximizing that chance is the best thing you can do. This trade and the Giannis trade have a lot in common as both teams trade for a future when they already have someone to compete now.
Honorable Mentions
Giants signing Isaiah Likely (FA) - I liked Likely more then Mark Andrews at some points on the Ravens. A young talented guy for a young talented team.
Chiefs signing Kenneth Walker III (FA) - This move made no sense for the Seahawks to not try and bring him back but Mahomes has a new weapon to further his quest back to a title.
Rams trading for Trent McDuffie (Trade) - Copy and Paste everything I said for the Myles Garrett trade into this trade. Rams are playing to win RIGHT NOW.
Vikings signing Kyler Murray (FA) - I am gonna get a lot of hate for this one not making my list. I really like Kyler Murray but he just doesnt have the juice he used go have. This signing seems like something to calm the fans after they knew McCarthy might not work out.
Broncos trading for Jaylen Waddle (Trade) - This one kinda went under the radar a little bit but this would be my 6th on the list. The Broncos fill a desperate need for a reasonable cost and look to continue the momentum of last seasons success.
#1 - Patriots trading for AJ Brown
When this trade happened I truly believe it was the best move for both sides. From the Eagles point of view this relationship was finished as AJ Brown had been very public about his frustrations with the team. The relationship would never allow him to reach the heights he once did. The Eagles were able to move up in the draft and get Makai Lemon at a significantly cheaper draft spot then thought making the WR room be able to get rid of him. In come the Patriots coming off a disappointing end to there season due to a struggling offense which struggled to be consistent. The Patriots were rumored for every major Free Agent WR of the last 2 or 3 years and have lost all of them. With this move they are able to get a true weapon #1 for this Patriots offense while getting back to the promise land. This deal get both teams better long term which doesn't always happen in trades.
I loved making this list if you wanna see more please drop a like on the post and comment your opinions below.
