2016 NBA Slam Dunk Contest
02/13/26
The last truly fantastic dunk contest. Andre Drummond and Will Barton were also here and honestly weren’t bad, but everyone remembers this for the legendary duel between Aaron Gordon and Zach Lavine. AG’s legacy is the greatest case for changing the dunk scores from out of 50 to out of 100. His cuffed 360 and the seated under-the-legs over the mascot dunk are probably in the top 5 dunks ever. Doing both of those on the 1st try was unbelievable. For Zach Lavine, he just made it look so easy. I remember he got a lot of flack from ‘only doing free-throw line dunks’. Read that again! The free throw line dunk was once a sacred and legendary dunk that very few could do. Lavine did it so often that people complained about it, insane. Even better, pretty much every dunk was 1st try. There wasn’t a lot of waiting, it was banger after banger after banger. In the end, Lavine won and despite the controversy, everyone knew we had just witnessed greatness. It’s a shame we may never get this again.
