Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl Halftime Show
01/26/26
I did a proper rewatch and my take landed here: Samuel L. Jackson as an absurdist Uncle Sam emcee was inspired. He actively progressed the setlist and gave the whole performance a narrative spine that felt intentional and sharp. The cinematic quality was outstanding. The staging, lighting, and set design made the show feel more like a short film than a medley, which really elevated it above a typical halftime spectacle. Kendrick and the dancers absolutely brought their A-game. The intensity, precision, and confidence were undeniable and Kendrick staring straight into the camera with the “say Drake” moment was electric, especially knowing this was right at the peak of their beef. My only real blemish — and unfortunately it matters at the Super Bowl — is the music selection. As great as the performance was conceptually, the absence of key tracks like Money Trees and Swimming Pools kept it from being truly definitive for me. Bad Bunny is officially on deck!!
