Newcastle was so close to pulling out a win, only for a late penalty to sink their chances. Good game and they got a point, but considering how they were the better team imo, not coming out with a win is disappointing. The men from Anfield appear to be grappling with the loss of Salah in real time which is ironic considering their attack was not the main problem. Shoutout to the comment that made me laugh while watching this game: “Enjoying Liverpool’s 4-0-3-1 system out of possession” - Lewis Steele Liverpool’s attack was getting some penetration even if it didn’t always lead to a goal. The much bigger problem is that if the Magpies broke through Liverpool’s top layer, they were probably getting a good chance. The man leading those attacks was usually Yoane Wissa. He has carried over his strong World Cup performance to the Prem. He did everything as a forward that hung back before becoming the primary striker. Sadly that great performance only comes in a draw instead of a big win.

Absolutely brutal timing on that final pk. Just a clearance away from 3 points. Otherwise I’m happy with how Newcastle looked today. After their insane summer I’ll take a point against a team like Liverpool.

Absolutely brutal from Liverpool, while committing so many players forward you cannot lose the ball as easily as Liverpool did. Especially with the pace of Newcastles attackers. Liverpool lucky to have gotten a point, will need to do some serious reevaluation. First game under new manager for both sides so dont see that as an excuse. The Liverpool players looked very sloppy. Newcastle did very well to exploit the weaknesses in Liverpools game. Feel they deserved to win. Unlucky for them.

Oh man. Crazy game and I'm not truly sure how to feel about it, but I'm leaning towards not great. A Newcastle team that just lost a ton of their best players and seemed certain to come out slow did just the opposite, scoring within 5 minutes. Liverpool equalized early in the 2nd half just for Newcastle to score within the next 3 minutes. Seemed like Liverpool was on the attack for damn near all of the final 15-20 minutes and finally Victor Muñoz is able to draw a penalty kick, and Szoboszlai absolutely nails it. I'll give the squad a little slack, it's the first game without Salah and under Iraiola's system, but they need to find a win early in the season. I will be honest I did get super excited after seeing Szoboszlai drill that penalty kick.

What a game, new castle really impressed me did not expect them to put up this good of a fight. Will take Liverpool a few games to adjust with the new manager. Really impressed with wissa elanga & Lewis hall (until the end). People were saying new castle dark horse team to be relegated but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are comfortably in the top half all year

Newcastle had three points all wrapped up until the bonehead tackle by Hall in the box, which lead to an absolute scorcher of a pen from Szoboszlai to tie the game up at the very end and spoil a home-opening win.

Liverpool salvages a point in its first league match under Iraola at Newcastle. The reds’ attacking play was encouraging throughout, just lacking the finishing ability to take advantage of many chances created. Slightly concerning to leak two goals on a day where you held possession at a high rate over the opposition, have to be better defensively when the adversary is on the counterattack. Great strike by Gakpo just before the hour mark brought new life to Liverpool after conceding early in the game, but Newcastle scoring again minutes later proved to be detrimental to the Red’s chances at victory. Saved by Szoboszlai after a foul given in the box late, a peerless penalty taken as time expired, finding the top left corner of the net. Leaving with a point on a day where you played well but missed lots of opportunity is certainly a strange feeling, but an encouraging performance for Liverpool nonetheless considering this is a fixture that tends to be a challenge each season.

What a game A lovely tribute to Kevin Keegan at the start a player and club legend for both teams and manager of Newcastle The talk of this game will be about that penalty, but let’s not forget the goals before an early start from Elanga for the only goal of the first half a great goal from Cody Gakpo to level it and the best goal of the game Wissa past two defenders and a huge run to the box for the best assist at the season so far and a pass to willock who keeps the ball on the run and slots it into the corner of the net scoring just 110 seconds after he comes on the pitch Finally, let’s talk about that penalty. It is a penalty every day of the week and really well done for the referee to call that penalty in the moment. I think had it not been called, it would’ve gone to VAR and possibly overturned into a penalty anyway and sobali hit is perfectly the give Liverpool a point form the Jaws of defeat

This was another very entertaining tie! Newcastle scored just 5 minutes in, but Liverpool didn’t go down that easy! They mostly controlled the play and they had some great chances to close out the half, but the score would remain the same after the first 45 minutes! Then Liverpool finally answered back! They found the back of the net 10 minutes into the second half, but Newcastle answered right back with a goal almost immediately after! It was looking bad for Liverpool as this game made it very deep into stoppage time witch Newcastle still in the lead, but Liverpool earned an extremely late penalty that they were able to convert to steal some points from Newcastle! Liverpool could’ve gotten a lot more from this game though

Pretty good, entertaining game that was a bit soured by a really late soft penalty to tie it up. Yes, Hall was flat footed, but it still just makes the whole game a little less fun. All three goals before the penalty were bangers tho
