FINALLY, a hyped conference championship game is actually good! Not just good, it was AMAZIN and HISTORIC. Indiana beats Ohio State for the first time since 1988, win their first conference championship since 1967 (first outright since 1945) and Mendoza likely clinched the Heisman trophy with his play in the 4th quarter. In a matchup between #1 and #2, it was nearly impossible to split these teams. Calling this a battle between defenses would be underselling it. This was a defensive WAR in the trenches. The Buckeyes and Hoosiers brought plenty of physicality and made sure every yard was earned the hard way. But in the 4th quarter, when Indiana desperately needed a TD, they did what Michigan couldn’t, drove down the field and got the touchdown they needed. Then, after multiple massive huge stops from their defense, Mendoza hit Becker with a dime for a 33 yard gain in what could go down as his Heisman moment. That completion let Indiana run the clock and wrap up the win.
