Ghana was on a historic Cinderella run in the 2010 World Cup. I think everyone was hoping they were Ghana win (just laugh, there's probably about 3 more of those coming). Game started with a couple headers off of corner kicks that looked like they were Ghana go in (I told you so). But Muntari started the scoring with an absolute snipe I didn't think there was any chance it was Ghana (last one I promise) go in but it did thanks to an absolutely beautiful curve just past the keeper's dive. However, Diego Forlan scored maybe the most perfect free kick I've seen in my life to tie the game early in the second half. Then, the most absurd sequence at the goal, ending with a red card to Suarez after he handballed to stop the ball from going in. In my opinion, if a player illegally stops a ball that's obviously going in and there's no possible way for anyone else to save it, it should count as a goal instead of being left to the fate of a penalty kick. Ghana was absolutely robbed of this game.

Did not think we'd see this one on here! Some matches become legendary because of skill. Others because of drama. Ghana vs. Uruguay had both.
With a World Cup semifinal berth on the line, Sulley Muntari stunned Uruguay with a long-range strike before halftime, only for Diego Forlán to answer with a trademark free kick. The match grew increasingly tense as extra time unfolded, culminating in one of the most unforgettable moments in football history. Suárez sacrificing himself with a red card to keep Uruguay alive. Asamoah Gyan stepped up with the hopes of an entire continent on his shoulders, but his penalty crashed off the crossbar.
The shootout that followed delivered heartbreak and jubilation in equal measure, ending with Sebastián Abreu's audacious Panenka sending Uruguay through. For neutrals, it was ninety minutes of tension followed by thirty minutes of pure chaos. For Ghana, it remains one of football's cruelest near misses.

Believe it or not guys I used to be a loser… until like 2015 I only watched the dodgers and NC State sports. (Then I got into hockey go caps) I was completely unaware of anything else happening in the world of sports especially soccer. But god this game and story is incredible. Such a crazy game. Uruguay and Ghana two unexpected teams in the quarterfinals. From what I saw through highlights this was an incredible emotional match. Pens in any World Cup game is something that will leave the losing side scared.

Great game that wil forever be drenched in controversy. Whi le this game was really good on its own, the context is very important here.
This World Cup was in South Africa and Ghana was the last African nation in the tournament so they became the darlings of the tournament with many rooting for them to become the first African team to make the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Uruguay was probably the lost aesthetically pleasing non-Spanish team of the tournament, led by Mr. Jabulani himself, aka, Diego Forlan.
We got the iconic moment at the very end. Ghana looked like they were gonna win it in extra time, only for Luis Suarez to blatantly stop it with his hands. Today, that’s an automatic goal. Back then, Ghana had to earn it with a penalty. Asamoah Gyan, who had been incredible in the tournament, stepped up and, to Africa’s horror, hit the crossbar and Ghana lost on penalties. Suarez became hated by the entire continent of Africa to the point that he has said he can’t go back.
