NBA Finals rematch, always a fun matchup on paper. But somehow, this game lived up to expectations and then some. The Thunder became the first team ever to start their season with back-to-back 2OTs. The Pacers, even without Haliburton, still look like the elite offense that we watched in the playoffs. Siakam also earned his Thundertaker nickname with a great performance while Benedict Mathurin put up 30 and competed with Shai for the title of top free throw dealer (Iykyk). But in the end, the Pacers couldn’t beat Shai’s 50 points, Wiggins’s white hot shot and Ajay Mitchell’s clutch buckets off the bench. In a cruel similarity to the finals, the Pacers slowly lost most of their best players due to fouling out which turned helped OKC cruised to victory in that 2nd OT. Which makes them the first team to win back-to-back 2OT games to start the season. A stat so unlikely that I expect the sun to explode tomorrow.
