The Hawks haven’t won a game with Trae Young since October 29th. It’s now January, and Atlanta have just had one of the best team performances I’ve watched of the entire NBA season. The writing has been on the wall for a while but it is most definitely time for Atlanta to move on from Trae Young and for Trae Young to move on from Atlanta, a fresh start that would massively benefit both parties. Johnson, NAW, Daniels, Onyeka, Risacher and Kennard were all on their complete A-Game and steamrolled the Knicks. Absolutely deplorable shooting from NY cost them from having a chance. I don’t care what the media says Nickeil Alexander-Walker is my MIP. Nowhere near enough people are talking about the season he’s having, great coup from the Hawks head office as the free agent signing is averaging over 20 a game. Fun mini comeback in the 4th for the OG led Knicks as they finally learned how to shoot but it was way too little too late. I fucking love Onyeka Okongwu. Hawks gotta keep him.

I did not think this was how the Trae Young era in Atlanta would end. I always thought it would be with an injury or a contract dispute or maybe… just maybe… with a retired jersey. Instead, Trae Young has outgrown his usefulness, it sounds harsh, but it’s the truth. When Jalen Johnson is doing pretty much everything Trae does with great defense, the writing is on the wall unless Trae can stay healthy and be transcendent on offense like a Steph Curry, spoiler, he hasn’t done either. Ironically Knicks fans probably left the arena chanting “Fuck Trae Young” into the night even though he didn’t play. Trae will always have that to reminisce about. Anyway, the game itself. Brunson didn’t shoot great and Johnson did. The Knicks as a whole shot terribly and they didn’t dominate the glass to make up for it. Hard to win without their MVP Mitchell Robinson. Oh well, all they can do is hope he’s back on the court soon.
