OMG, the Thunder actually played their starters in the 4th quarter! It’s a Christmas miracle a week and a half before Christmas. When the Spurs beat the Lakers, I called this Thunder-Spurs matchup David vs. Goliath except David is an alien. That alien didn’t come to Vegas just happy to be there. He came to WIN. While Wemby is likely not 100% (considering he didn’t start), it feels like he never left. Any time he was on the floor, he was shifting the balance of power. Very Jokic-esque impact against the Thunder. Feels like ages since we’ve had a close Thunder game and it made up for the wait. Except the vibe-killing late fouls and free throws. I know it’s good strategy, but it’s never fun to watch a guy shoot 2 free throws, call timeout and then watch another 2 free throws. It kills the tension, especially when it could be a game tying shot. Besides that, this was a great game. It wasn’t just Wemby. Vassell, Fox and Castle came up huge. Just a shame this had such a bummer ending.

SPURS ARE GOING TO THE NBA CUP FINALS!
Thunder finally lose a game and end their 16 game win streak which is the most in their franchise history. This game showed how much wemby really means to this spurs team, with him playing on a minutes restriction there wasn’t much momentum, but when he got in it was a whole different ball game for the spurs.

You always hear the analysts say “id foul here” when the game is close but this is first time I’ve ever seen that strategy fully executed and it made for the most anti climactic and drawn out ending to an otherwise competitive game with compelling storylines. I should be celebrating the fact that Wemby snapped the Thunder’s 16 game winning streak in his first game back from injury but instead I’m annoyed that the last two minutes of that game took 30 minutes in real time. Terrible for the product something has to change here.

This was the best game played this season. And probably one of the top 5 best regular season games played in the last handful of seasons. OKC will NOT eclipse the 24-1 record of the Warriors, Wemby in his return stopped the making of what many thought would be new history. As put by Van Gundy and Wade, the Spurs are contenders NOW. Defensive masterclasses from Caruso, Dort, Holmgren, but all out dominance on both ends of the floor from Wemby despite a minutes restriction. You really can’t ask for more.
