Gotta keep the streak alive. This could’ve been a good game. Maybe even a great game. Problem is NBA officials decided to insert themselves into this game by doing their job too much and not doing their job enough. It’s not so much that this game felt rigged. The free throws and fouls were pretty even across the teams (not that it should matter if they’re close anyway, depending on how one team is playing). The problem is simple: even when the refs get it right, they slow the game down to a crawl. I understand if the monitor is needed for bang-bang plays, but at some point, the officials need to be able to make the call in the moment and stick to it. The expectation isn’t that they’re perfect, the expectation is that they can make sure the game goes smoothly with few foul ups. Sadly, that is apparently too much to ask. Thunder earned the win regardless, it’s just hard to ignore the quagmire of pauses that happened in between genuinely great plays from OKC.

I love basketball. OKC has dudes that are elite at basketball. But they do so much extra that isn’t basketball that decreases any excitement around their games, the playoffs as a whole, and the NBA at large. If this style is the best the NBA has to offer, the league is in the tough spot. It’s an embarrassing product from dudes who do not need to be doing all that. And I can’t stand LA!

What was that little Austin Reaves pow wow at center court with the entire referee crew and the Lakers at the end of the game? Never seen a player command an audience like that before especially after a game. LeBron just nodding his approval like a concerned parent. Some weird no calls for sure but Lakers were again shooting the lights out and OKC again just flipped the switch and made it unreachable. Back to LA 🙂↕️
