Record Shattering Insanity
There were so many records broken or approached in this game, I’m going to list them off.
The Spurs held a 27-point lead at halftime, that is tied for the 3rd largest in NBA finals history. Only trailing 2020 Lakers against the Heat in game 6 and the 1985 Celtics in game 2 against the Lakers.
The Spurs also set the record for most points at halftime for a road team in NBA finals history. Also the 3rd largest for any NBA finals team ever.
The Spurs’ 14 3-pointers made at halftime is the all-time record in the NBA Finals. It beats the 2017 Cavs in game 4. They were also 1 3 shy of the most 3s made in an NBA finals quarter when they made 8 in the 2nd.
Of course, the one you all know, the Knicks completed the largest finals comeback in NBA history by a huge margin. The previous record was 24 by the 2008 Boston Celtics against the Lakers and there’s only 1 other 20-point comeback in NBA finals history (95 Rockets against Magic)
OG and Brunson each put up 33 points in this all-time classic. They are just the 10th pair of teammates to ever do that in a Finals game and the first pair to do it since the Steph Curry and Kevin Durant in 2017.
