I’m so disappointed in myself for writing this game off (context: I started watching near the beginning of the 3rd). But I’m glad I caught it right on time to watch an epic ending. Ever since the Sky traded Angel Reese, I’ve been saying the Sky want to tank and so far, they’ve done a bad job. This game makes me rethink that belief. It felt like an easy loss to take and an easy dub for the powerhouse Aces, but to Chicago’s credit (or detriment, depending on how you look at it), they held their own, in spite of A’ja Wilson’s typical dominance. They took the 2004 Pistons’ Finals strategy: let the big dominant player score however much they want while holding off everybody else and it worked. Although, it looked like a foolish tactic for a while. The Sky looked helpless down the stretch and it made me think the Aces were gonna take it. Would’ve been just a valiant effort. Instead, Sydney Taylor got free with a screen and swished the big time shot to give the Sky an awesome win.

Chicago had been struggling in clutch time, but they sure didn’t in this game! Las Vegas had the edge for almost all of this one as they led the majority of this contest! It was very close though for the entire first half. The Aces looked like they were finally starting to pull away as they had a double digit lead after the third quarter. Thankfully for my entertainment, the Sky would make a comeback! The Aces lead would disappear with 6 minutes to go, and this would be a stellar finish! Both teams were going back and forth during that stretch until I thought A’ja Wilson won it on a contested layup to break the tie with 7 seconds to go! That capped off a monster 36 point performance from the MVP, but it would ultimately end in disappointment as Sydney Taylor would hit a dagger three to give the Sky the lead with 2 seconds left! Las Vegas couldn’t answer in those last seconds as Chicago steals one from the reigning champs!

And we all thought A’ja Wilson was going to be the player of the game, but Sydney Taylor said, “No, no, no.” What a shot!! I picked the Aces, but it was fun seeing the Sky get the win. Although, there was time for one more shot and they might have started celebrating a little too soon. Chicago did a great job coming back from being down double-digits in the fourth quarter. They used their challenge in the right spot and it went their way. A’ja Wilson was great even when they double-teamed her and had 36 points and 12 rebounds. It really felt like it was all about Wilson and Taylor today with both players making shots down the stretch. Things don’t get any easier for Las Vegas as they have Atlanta, Indiana, Minnesota and New York next all on the road.
