The WNBA PR has been atrocious recently so a couple of banger games on a Saturday is exactly what they needed. This is the game I had more faith in and it did not disappoint, although it’s not quite as amazing as the earlier game was. Sabrina Ionescu started hot and kept simmering throughout the game as she helped the Liberty hang on for the win. Wasn’t as easy as New York wanted, the Mercury wouldn’t go away and nearly had a crazy last-minute comeback in the 4th. They better thank their lucky stars that Breanna Stewart came up clutch with those free throws or else we may be talking about how the Liberty blew this game and lost in overtime. Copper and Bonner were the major reasons for that, Bonner especially. They probably would’ve pulled it off if not for New York’s dominance in the glass. Not just Sabrina, but Han Xu, Stewart and Jonquel Jones were all preventing second chances. Although, if the Mercury don’t miss a few 4th quarter free throws, maybe it doesn’t matter.

This game sure had a little bit of everything. Both teams had double-digit leads. New York led by as many as 13 and Phoenix even had a 10-point lead in the third quarter. The Liberty erased that deficit and had the lead going into the fourth. You would think with an eight-point lead with a minute left New York had the win, but the Mercury made it interesting. Bonner hit a three with 24 seconds left to make it a two-point game. Stewart made her free throws to ice the game. New York was great from the line going 19-19. Another interesting stat. The Liberty had 17 turnovers to the Mercury’s 10. However, New York had 27 points off turnovers and Phoenix just 10. If Phoenix had taken advantage of those turnovers, they probably would have won the game. Bonner and Copper both scored 25 points and Thomas 17 points. It ws the usual suspects for the LIbery. Ionescu with 27 points, 7 boards and 10 assists and Jones, Stewart and Xu all in double figures. New York with a nice road win

So close to an amazing comeback! This game started and the Liberty wasted absolutely no time before they got their first lead. They were up big almost right away, and it looked like this would be a blowout. Phoenix wouldn’t go down that easy though! The Mercury would make a big push right before halftime, and they made it a 1 possession game going into the second half! They wouldn’t stop there either as they would get their first lead of the game and then some! Phoenix would have a double digit lead in the third quarter, but the Liberty didn’t let that last. They went on another big run of their own to have a lead going into the fourth quarter and they would have a solid lead for almost all of it. The Mercury would make an amazing push to take this game from New York, but the Liberty barely hold on for the resilient road win!
