The Ducks took the early lead, but that was about it for them. Some terrible play from Gudas and especially Helleson, who gave New Jersey their lead that they wouldn’t give back. Strong last period by Anaheim, but Allen stood on his head and an empty netter sealed it

Anaheim took control of this game early, but once the Devils grabbed momentum at the end of the 1st, they never let go of it; even when the Ducks tried to fly back into this game, they got overwhelmed by the Devils’ elite forechecking. The Ducks have rightfully gotten a ton of credit for their high-flying defense that is able to add a key factor to their electric offense. It has also helped the Ducks remain a great possession team. However, while watching this game, a question entered my head. What happens when the Ducks lose possession? I’ll tell you, they get their fucking doors blown off, giving up great chances after giving up good chances while leaving their goalie for dead. When the Ducks could hang on to the puck, they looked good, problem is the Devils have multiple great defensive forwards that overwhelmed the Ducks D-men, especially LaCombe who looked weirdly outmatched in the final minutes as the Ducks couldn’t get much after playing a genuinely good 3rd period.
