Missed opportunity for the Capitals in a rare bad night for Logan Thompson. A Rangers squad that has struggled to score goals all season long put up 7 goals on a Capitals team that has been quite good at preventing goals. Somehow through 2 periods the Capitals were outshooting the Rangers 20 to 10 and yet were only winning 3-2. But all hell broke loose in the 3rd period, the Rangers scored 5 unanswered goals and routed Washington in an embarrassing effort from the Caps. On the plus side (for Rangers fans) Trochek figured out how to score again, as did Taylor Raddysh. Both those guys had 6 and 5 goals respectively coming into this game and left this one with 2 each. It felt like every Ranger goal in that 3rd period was even more demoralizing and just tanked any chance they had of winning. The 3rd period was a dud for sure, but the first 2 periods were pretty good even with bad goaltending on both sides. Just wish we got more of that in the 3rd. Oh well, it happens in rivalries sometimes
