Sometimes the delusional backing of your team does work 😅 Way to go fire!

*sigh* On one hand, I like how they keep fighting even when the game feels over, but I wish that they played like that in the 3 quarters before the game was basically decided. Perhaps the extended break will help them in their return, but for now, it is clear who won the expansion draft and it’s not the Canadian team. Carla Leite had a performance that made her look like a free throw merchant on steroids. A free throw connoisseur perhaps? Whatever you want to call it, 15 of her 27 points came at the line. Even if you want to detract from her scoring, she also provided 11 assists, not exactly a 1 trick pony. Mabrey had a tough game, didn’t shoot well and couldn’t even get to 10 points. Allemand did a good job setting up teammates, but everybody was struggling to convert. It was brutal to watch until the 4th came around and everyone woke up. The middle quarters were especially bad and I don’t think it’s a coincidence my body was shutting down (passing out) while I was watching the game.

This game seemed like it could be a good battle between a couple of bad teams, but that is unfortunately not what happened. The first quarter did happen the way I wanted it to though! It was some great back and forth action for almost the full first ten minutes, but that would not last. The Fire would start running away with this game before a solid comeback push from the Tempo. Toronto would get it close about halfway through the second quarter, but Portland would really get going after that. The Fire would hold a lead that was 27 points at its largest, and they would never really be threatened. The Tempo just were completely unable to get anything going for the final three quarters of this game

I did not have the Portland Fire as the highest scoring team in WNBA tonight, but they were. Even with their bench getting plenty of playing time, the Fire easily handled the Tempo. Mabrey still seems bothered by her neck injury and scored only 9 points. Carla Leite feasted at the free throw line going 15-17. She had 27 points and 11 assists. Bridget Carleton also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. This was a bit of a lackluster game, especially after that Aces/Fever game and even the Sparks/Lynx game.
