I almost had to do a double-take at the end of the first quarter. With the way the Sum played the other night, I did not expect them to be up on the Liberty. Of course that didn’t last and by halftime the Liberty were winning. Jonquel Jones had 19 points in the first half and finished with a double-double. The Sun tried to close the gap, but New York went on a 10-2 run and that was that. At least Connecticut showed some fight today and made it competitive. Hopefully Ionescu will be healthy enough to play soon.

This was a fun game and the Sun definitely threatened the Liberty, but we all knew that Connecticut wouldn’t win. The Sun actually led for almost all of the first quarter though! They would lose that lead quickly as the Liberty would take it very early in the second quarter, and they did hold onto it for the rest of this game. Connecticut had one more good push in them to make it a one point game with seven minutes left! Unsurprisingly for the Sun, New York would pull back away quickly and hold on for the win. The Sun definitely kept this closer than expected!

One of the better Sun games of the season, but couldn’t get my hopes up with the lack of intensity this team plays with. Did make it a lot closer in the 3rd by slowing down the pace but Marine Johannes was too much. First (and unfortunately last) time ever at Mohegan Sun Arena, so great to see the environment and Auntie Angel but Liberty fans travel well.
