Indeed game on the night Diana Taurasi’s induction to the Mercury ring of honor! This one had some awesome back and forth action! Nobody got a big lead as these teams were going blow for blow the entire 40 minutes! This game came down to the wire and it looked like Portland had it in the bag late after they stopped the Mercury after they had already made it a two possession game, but a huge steal and subsequent three from Alyssa Thomas to make it a one point game! The Fire hit both free throws and Phoenix had a chance to send it to overtime, but Sami Whitcomb hit rim on the buzzer beater three as Portland barely holds off the Mercury! What an ending!

THE GOAT. What else can I say? An unforgettable night, even in the midst of a Mercury defeat, Diana Taurasi manages to grab the hearts of Phoenix basketball faithful one last time in a ceremony I’ve never seen anything quite like in sports before. It was honor to watch her play, and now it was an honor to watch her number go up forever. Thank you DT! 💜🧡
