This had the atmosphere of a playoff game and it basically was. Nashville and LA were tied on points and right beside each other in the wildcard race. The winner would take that 2nd Wildcard spot with 5 games left. The Kings had the edge through 2 periods both in play and on the scoreboard thanks to a couple unsung heroes in Armia and Laughton. Nashville relied on their star power, especially their wizard in Roman Josi who tied it up in the 3rd as the Predators took control in a desperate erffort to tie it up.
The overtime was awesome! It was a small taste of playoff OT with NO WHISTLES so it was 5 minutes STRAIGHT of intense hockey going back and forth. I really wish we had gotten more, but sadly, we had to settle this in a shootout. Granted, the stakes made it tense, but it certainly was nowhere near as good as regular overtime. A couple flubs from the Predators gives the Kings, who have less regular season wins than the Blackhawks and Flames, a valuable 2 points.
