Flames win a simple game. Mackenzie Weegar returned to Calgary and got a nice tribute. I’m glad Weegar gets a chance to go back to the playoffs, he’ll be missed. More importantly, Flames continue their shockingly above average record at home as they outplay the Utah Mammoth and get a win. No matter where their season was destined to go, you can never discount Calgary’s effort, they were relentless and had the Mammoth frazzled. Utah already having their spot locked up probably helped with that, but it’s still cool to see as a fan. Especially since so many on our team now are the future. Coronato, Frost, Parekh, Brzustewicz, Wiebe and of course, Dustin Wolf. It hurts my soul that he couldn’t get the shutout (damn Keller screen). He had a great game; rock solid between the pipes. Ironically it was someone not a part of our future who had the best game. Brayden Pachal had the first 3 point game of his career and helped Suniev get his first career points by giving the kid a primary assist.

Just another very weak game by Mammoth. I don’t know what they were doing all first period, but the effort looked gone. I know they probably are just ready for the playoffs and this was a back to back game but they needed way more to look like they earned the playoff spot. They needed to have at least one more win to secure the 1st wild card spot and this game should have been it. Second period they looked to have some of the effort back and somewhat for 3rd but wasn’t much. Flames looked good though although I’m not sure Flames fans were happy with it either as they want a better lotto pick too.
