Grindy, tense and bitter are the best words I can use to describe game 1 and I mean all that in a good way. It ain’t Crosby vs. Ovechkin, but the Battle of Pennsylvania is far from a bad alternative. There is clearly still plenty of tension in this rivalry, as was apparent from beginning to end with all the scraps, pushing, shoving and penalties. Even Crosby was boiling. Which is likely exactly what the Flyers want. They played a stifling defensive game. The goal was clearly to minimize Pittsburgh’s time in their offensive zone. Beat them to the dump and chase and clear the zone as soon as possible. The strategy worked immensely well as Vladar was rarely tested, though he stood tall when he was. Skinner was tested much more often and was mostly pretty good. Not much he can do when Sanheim is dangling around multiple Penguins. The last couple minutes were really intense, starting with Crosby getting feisty and Rust cutting the deficit to 1. Vladar had to make a last second save to win.

"I see you riding round town with the player I love and I'm like, screw you~" God, Ovi in yellow still feels so weird. Anyhow, the game. Also, ignore my lack of puck knowledge here. The first period looked pretty exciting, with the Flyers taking a 1-1 tie and keeping the momentum for another goal in the first period. Pittsburgh and Philly traded goals again in the second, and nothing happened in the third. Both the Battle of Pennsylvania and the Flyers having their first playoff appearance since the Jurrasic period showed here, with a bunch of hits and penalties. Caps vs Pengs and Crosby vs Ovi would have been more exciting, but this one will still be good. I have this one going to May, give me Flyers in seven.

What a game to start the Battle of Pennsylvania! The Flyers in their first playoff appearance in 7 years against the Penguins in potentially Sydney Crosby's last playoff appearance. This will be an incredible series and it started with an incredible game one. Give me the Flyers in 7.

What a finish! Can’t wait for the rest of this series this was an awesome game . I really thought the pens were gonna tie it up at the end there but vladar held strong. Fun to see the rookie get his first playoff goal and the game winner

This was a good game. I honestly don’t care about either team so I was less invested in this game. Shoutout my boy Vladar who was on my fantasy team. He is a really underrated goalie. Close game at the end which is always fun.

In state rivalries are always the best. This should be a great series.

Excellent first game to the series. Flyers played their style of hockey and played great. Martone is the real deal unreal. All the pressure is not on Pitt to tie up the series
