Racing Santander looked great in their first LaLiga match in a long time! They scored on a penalty early and got a brace soon after, but Villarreal would find an answer at the very end of the first half! They erased the deficit with a pair of goals in a minute! I was hoping for an equally great second half, but that wouldn’t end up happening. There would be some great chances for Santander to close this game out, but nobody could break this tie. The first half was awesome though!

Racing Santander is rightfully excited to be back in LaLiga and they looked like they were going to celebrate their return in style. It wasn’t a perfect start, but Santander eventually got a penalty and Andrés Martín tucked away a penalty to score a goal that was 14 years in the making. That alone would’ve been great for the club’s supporters. But when Martínez doubled the lead, it felt like a storybook moment. Villarreal was understandably shell shocked and the yellow submarine was stuck at the docks, desperately needing repairs. Luckily they had Gueye and Pepe to score two quick goals to tie it up and end an insane first half. While the 2nd half was good, it paled in comparison to a bonkers first half. More dead periods and misses in general hold this game back from the fabled 9+ area. Still a great game, just not in the excellent realm. Even though I picked Villarreal, there was a part of me that really wanted Santander to pull it off. I bet they’re happy with a draw though.

Crazy first half. In their first La Liga game in 14 years, Anthony Santander FC starts off with 2 quick goals, but right at the end of the first half within the span of a minute Villarreal scores two goals in a row to bring the game level. After a crazy offensive first half, no scoring in the second. Alex Freeman subbed in in the 88th minute, and Santander didn’t score after that. The Alex Freeman effect. What a stud.

MVP Nicolas Pepe 1 goal
Alright I’m gonna give this European soccer thing a try over the next few weeks… starting right here. I don’t have a lot to say because I’m new to these players and teams but I will say this was a fun close game! I find soccer satisfying to watch, even if I don’t know who anyone on the field is 🤣 Pepe is fun to watch though! Really fun little comeback in the final minutes before halftime
