Texas Tech keeps wins this game, but the Mountaineers didn’t make it too easy. Let me ask you a simple question: How the hell do you beat a team when you shoot 14% from 3 in the first half while letting your opponent shoot 73% from 3? The answer is you don’t and West Virginia proved that, although, it wasn’t without a fight. West Virginia started the 2nd half with an 8-0 run to cut their deficit down to 5 and never went away after that. However, West Virginia’s shooting problems stuck around and it cost them dearly. They shot a gross 2/22 from 3. The Mountaineers persevered in spite of that and it took Bamgoye’s 2 blocks in the final seconds to kill any hope of a crazy comeback that remained. JT Toppin continued his historic 20 and 10 season, first guy to do it since Blake Griffin was at Oklahoma. Atwell and Anderson made sure to pitch in just enough to keep the Mountaineers at bay. Lorient was a big reason why this game remained kind of close while Eaglestaff struggled mightily.
