After a 5-1 loss to start the series, the Sox got a 5-1 win of their own. 6 great innings from Starter Brayan Bello. This is what we always expected from him. I did believe this season he'd figure it out come summertime, and he did so, but not in the way I expected. It's genuinely insane the difference he has had between being a starter and a reliever. I just want to point out some notable ones so far, as of August 7th.
Starter: 8 games, 35.2 innings, 1-6, 10 HR allowed, .365 opponent BA, 1.057 opponent OPS
Reliever: 9 games, 44 innings, 3-0, 1 HR allowed, .204 opponent BA, .483 opponent OPS
And then of course the most glaring one. As a starter, he has an ERA of 10.35. As a reliever? 0.61! Better ERA out of the bullpen than Mason Miller! He has statistically been the best relief pitcher in the MLB this season. It's actually absurd how good he has been since he's moved to the bullpen. Bullpen Bello is ELITE.
