Just a brutal way to lose but by this point in the 2024 season I was just used to it. Got a lead early thanks to a Jarren Duran home run and another from an error, but the Astros got 2 back in the 4th. Then a Yoshida 2 run home run, only for the bullpen top let them make it 4-3 in the 6th, then 4-4 in the 8th, then a 5-4 walkoff in the 9th. Games like these are exactly was separated the 2022-June 2026 Red Sox from the current Red Sox. Close games like these. Coming down to can the bullpen hang on to the lead and can the offense come up with the big hit when they need to. Lately, they've been doing exactly that. The past few years? Not so much.
