Top fan take from @FlameRaptorRaven: “This was a slugfest between the established and the unestablished. A fascinating matchup on paper even though UConn looked like the better team overall. Sadly, the underdog story ended as experience won the day. UConn got physical with Illinois early, building up a lead on the back of Tarris Reed. Illinois found a way to match that physicality, got some blocks and went on a 13-3 run to take the lead back, only for UConn to go on their own 13-2 run to take a double digit lead. After they did that, it felt like they wouldn’t give it up. They held an 8-12 point lead for what felt like 30 minutes of game time. It only changed thanks to a 10-0 run for Illinois starting with 9 minutes to go and ending after 4 and a half minutes. That run made it a 4-point game. UConn went back up 8 in short order, but Illinois didn’t go quietly. They made it close, but the hole they dug themselves was too deep. Credit to them for making this close, but they could never fully close the gap. Sad end.”
