The 2025 New York Mets took a years worth of hard earned fan-capital, lit it on fire, and gave it away like a failed Citi Field collectible gimmick. Seven hundred million dollars (that's 700,000,000) to Juan Soto to see him ground into a double play in the final game of the saeson with a the playoffs begging to be made. David Stearns, in less than a calendar year, has gone from baseball wunderkind to one of the financial institutions of the 2008 financial crisis that Bears (Sterns) his same name. Steven Cohen with delusional positivity on X and in interviews with no substance behind it. I feel bad for absolutely no one on this franchise. What a wasted season. 20 games above .500 to missing the playoffs is so incredibly on brand you could not Fred Wilpon this ending any better.

They’ve done it. The Mets have put themselves into infamy. This game might as well be a microcosm of their choke. They had chances to win this. Chances to get back into this game. Chances to just make this game more interesting. And yet, they could not capitalize. The Reds are in, they are out. Marlins bullpen did enough to hang on for the win while the Marlins hitters took their chance and made the most of it.
