Another classic chapter in this budding rivalry. It looked like the defense was gonna be a problem again but the pitching got out of countless jams until finally the offense awoke in the 8th. Particularly clutch were the challenge in the 4th that saved a run and Herrin slamming the door in the 7th. Flaherty vs. Cecconi tomorrow with a trip to Seattle on the line.

Electric atmosphere and missed opportunities. I’ve said this before, but one of the most underrated plays in baseball is the clutch strikeout that shuts down a rally and this game had multiple moments like that as the Tigers left multiple runners on base in 4 consecutive innings and again in the 9th. My favourite was easily Herrin coming in and getting back-to-back strikeouts with runners on the corners. Honourable mention to Smith closing it out. On the other side, Rocchio, who had 4 home runs this year, hit the biggest home run of the season to open the floodgates and that led to Bo Naylor’s 3 run home run. The Tigers did not die easily, even loaded the bases in the 9th, but they missed their chance, by inches thanks to a slick catch to end it.
