What a game! The Mariners strike first on a J-Rod homer, but Detroit is able to answer right back with 2! The Mariners would tie it back up and it would stay this way and go to extras! Nobody scored in the 10th, but Detroit is able to get 1 home on a McKinstry single and Seattle couldn’t answer! Detroit takes game 1!

Glad we saved the best game for last. We even got our first taste of division series extra inning baseball! The Mariners were led by their two-headed monster in Julio and Big Dumper. Meanwhile, the Tigers had more of a team effort with help from Kerry Carpenter’s domination of George Kirby to match the Mariners bats. This was really a pitching duel as both bullpens were terrific. Munoz even got to show off his fielding in the 9th. As for the extra innings, not only did they remind me how much I prefer them without the free baserunner, it prolonged the pitching duel, a duel that the Tigers and McKinstry eventually won out, fittingly, when Naylor couldn’t capitalize on an opportunity that Julio set up.
