Cantillo and Gausman both were good today. Cantillo didn’t have his usual overwhelming strikeout stiff but still mustered 4 K’s through 5 innings. He ran into some trouble in the 6th where he was pulled after allowing two runners that eventually scored to close out his stat line on the day. Bluejays bullpen held it down after Gausman came out as well.

A game where things just worked. The starter didn’t fall apart, the bats were alive, we stole bases (whaaaaat?), runs were walked in, and the bullpen was nasty (well …). For a team as cursed as the 2026 Blue Jays, this was like manna from heaven.
(Bottom of the 7th should have been better. How do you load the bases with no outs and only get one run? And that was only because Cleveland walked it in!)

Always a close game and there was never a moment where the other team had a demanding lead, Okamoto with the second homer in a row, and that 3 run inning really helped Toronto. Varland coming in for his first save of the season was a bit scary, nervous ninth. Bases loaded jam but got the 2 K’s to shut the door.
