Did Elmo Just Save Alec Bohm's Season?
Elmo joined the Philadelphia Phillies broadcast booth during the top of the third inning, and was very enthusiastic about the Phillies. When asked about how his day at the ballpark was as part of the organization's 'Strikeout The Stigma' initiative, Elmo responded that it's been a wonderful time and that "Elmo loves the Phillies, Go Phillies, baby!" The Phillies play-by-play commentator Tom McCarthy pointed out that it's likely because the two share the color red, which Elmo agreed with.
Immediately after, Elmo declared that "Elmo wants to see a home run". "We would love to see a home run," McCarthy responded. "That would be cool," Elmo added on.
In the bottom of the third inning, third baseman Alec Bohm lead off and got out to a 2-0 count before hitting his second home run of the season 373 feet to left field. As he rounded the bases, Phillies color commentator John Kruk asked, "Where's Elmo?" Continuing his home run call, McCarthy responded, "Elmo wished for a home run and he got one!"
Three batters later, Kyle Schwarber hit a three-run home run to put the Phillies ahead.
Because of the Phillies offensive success in the bottom of the third, Alec Bohm took the first at-bat of the bottom of the fourth inning and hit a second home run, this one sneaking over the left-center field wall. Additionally, Bohm hit a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to give him his third extra-base hit of the day.
Elmo got his home runs, and there's a chance that Alec Bohm got his stuff working again.
