You expect a great outing every time Cristopher Sanchez takes the mound, you don’t expect Gavin Williams to match him blow for blow, no offense to, noted pretty good pitcher, Gavin Williams. Yet they did. Neither pitcher ever had a real chance of a no hitter, let alone a perfect game. Williams gave up a hit in the 1st and Sanchez gave up 1 in the 2nd. No intrigue there. Instead, the drama came from waiting for one of them to screw up. Neither allowed many baserunners, even though Sanchez looked more dominant on the mound, and they both just kept both lineups mostly silent. The turning point was when both teams finally had to go to their bullpen. Duran was first and immediately gave up a hit to Jose Ramirez before letting Manzardo come up clutch and hit a home run to tie it. The only reason it wasn’t 2 runs was because Jose got tagged out. Cleveland may have lost their idiotic gambling closer, but they can still close thanks to Cade Smith shutting the door.”
