The Rangers had a very bad time whenever Jac Caglianone stepped up to the plate and a mediocre time whenever facing anyone else. It’s a shame because Eovaldi was dealing through 4 innings. Had a no-hitter going, only for him to lose his groove after that, starting when the aforementioned Jac hit a home run off him. After the Rangers got nothing in the top of the 6th, Kansas City blew the game open. That rally was capped off by a Caglianone blast to make it 5-2.
On the surface, that seems like a very close game that could easily come down to the wire. After all, Texas’s bullpen (mostly) shut down the Royals to keep it close. The problem is aside from a small rally in the 7th (that wouldn’t have happened without Joc’s triple), the Rangers couldn’t get anything. Joc couldn’t match Jac, Seager couldn’t get on-base (though he drove in a run) and we couldn’t stop striking out, especially in the 8th and 9th. Even when we made contact, we could only generate 2 extra base hits out of 9.
