Just a straightforward beat down with one strange quirk. This was an uncharacteristic bad performance for Zack Wheeler, which made this an easy win for the barely alive Cardinals. Maybe Kyle Leahy stole his spirit. He pitched great and it kept the Phillies in an uphill battle that only got steeper the more runs St. Louis put up. Bohm’s error was a bad omen (missing Bryce in that spot) and Nathan Church eventually drove in Jordan Walker, Wheeler’s 1 and only unearned run. He seemingly rediscovered his game in the later innings only to fall apart in the 5th and dig an even deeper hole. The Phillies couldn’t even get a hit after the 5th. Just a tough performance for the Phillies. Bohm was ironically one of their best hitters, beaten only by Arraez who hit 1 of 2 extra base hits and drove in their only run. Meanwhile, pretty much every Cardinal had a great day at the plate. Except Winn, he sucked, but that’s been typical for him this season. Good days have been typical for Alec Burleson.
