It’s great that the Angels at least made an attempt at a comeback, but they didn’t do anything for a ton of this game. Yusei Kikuchi made his return from the IL today, and he wasn’t very sharp. He allowed three runs in the second and another two in the fifth. The Angels didn’t break through until the eighth inning where Zach Neto sparked a three run rally by clobbering a ball out of the park! They did get a chance to tie this game in the ninth after a Christian Moore leadoff double, but they didn’t do anything after that and Moises Ballesteros chased a ball way out of the zone to strike out which ended the game. I did appreciate Mark Gubicza’s Burgermeister Meisterburger reference during Jake Burger’s at bat in the eighth. The Halos need to finish the season 11-20

Good lord. That was closer than I wanted. I thought I was going to be able to rate this in the green and talk about Quantrill’s amazing pitching performance and surprisingly good season. Instead, our bullpen nearly blew it when Gray and Alexander proved incapable of shutting down LA’s rally in the 8th. It took a former Angel to come in and calm everything down. Thankfully the 9th was much simpler and Texas still got a win to tie themselves with the Astros for the top spot in the AL Worst. Despite what I just said, I really want to talk about Quantrill. This guy has come out of nowhere to have his best season in years. He’s definitely not elite and his numbers are probably not sustainable, but for this season, his effectiveness has been huge for a pitching staff that has relied on a mostly strong bullpen. Along with that, Seager and Langford continue to produce at the right time and Duran may be one of our MVPs by the time the season is over. Diaz also came up big with some insurance.
