Scott Hatteberg. One of the most unlikely people to hit the homer did. Please please please please please if you have not go watch moneyball! If you like baseball this is the perfect movie for you and it has some good actors in it like Brad Pitt and others.

The Network Associates Coliseum! The Moneyball A's, already riding a 19 game wave of destiny, exploded for 11 runs by the third inning against the lowly Royals. Ray Durham tripled, Eric Chavez drove in three, John Mabry went deep. It felt like a coronation. Then the baseball gods laughed. Kansas City chipped away five in the fourth, five more in the eighth on Mike Sweeney's three-run shot and tied it in the ninth off Billy Koch. An 11-0 lead evaporated into pure chaos. 55,528 souls held their breath. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Art Howe summoned Scott Hatteberg, the patient on base machine Beane had plucked from obscurity and shifted to first. Pinch hitting for Eric Byrnes, Hatteberg turned on Jason Grimsley's sinker and launched it into the right-center bleachers. Walk-off. 12-11. American League record 20 straight. I can almost see the Brad Pitt montage and hear the music when writing this one. What a classic.

ITS SO GAS... BUT AT WHAT COST!!! The Royals were so close to having this to show for a terrible 2000's but instead a homer and it is another blemish to the record. Really fun game to rewatch highlights of though!

The Red Sox just completed the 4th longest MLB winning streak of the 21st century, the 2nd longest reached its peak in this game. It’s a game so good that Moneyball director Bennett Miller used it as the climax of the movie. At the time, no MLB team had completed a 20-game win streak since 1935. It was seen as almost impossible for any team, let alone a team that had just lost their best player, to accomplish such a feat in the modern era. Yet somehow the Oakland As were 1 win away and it looked like they were going to cruise to that victory. Instead, Hollywood needed a script so the Royals clawed back into the game and Alicea drove in the tying run at the top of the 9th. All of a sudden, the As, right on the precipice of a historic achievement, were now so close to blowing it. Only for Scott Hatteberg to come in and hit the walk off home run that Chris Pratt of all people would recreate in a movie a decade later. An unbelievable way to reach a milestone teams are still chasing today.

The Royals almost made the greatest comeback in baseball history, as they tied this up at 11 going into the bottom of the 9th inning after trailing 11-0 at the end of the 3rd inning. But the A’s hit a walk off home run to survive.

moneyball is my favorite movie of ALL TIME. not just favorite sports movie, favorite movie. with that said there is no way i can give a non biased review of this game because of how many times i've watched it on screen. there is no question though, this game rocks. oakland a's win 20 in a row, royals score 5 in the 8th and one in the 9th and scott hatteburg hits a walk off in the 9th. how can you not be romantic about baseball?
