Pretty good opening into this rendition of our World Cup. Kind of surprised South Africa couldn’t pull through all the way, but Mexico is undeniably ready for what they’ve gotten themselves into. South Africa was just letting any player they let on the field die today though. All in all, the big three got ourselves a World Cup to host, and it starts with our valued member Mexico getting themselves a win. All around just another win for the great lands of North America! A is a pretty good group too, they got their work cut out for them.

Goes green because of the incredible energy of the Azteca and Ian Darke’s color commentary. One of the best to ever do it I’m absolutely giddy we get an entire month + of his wordsmithing and storytelling. Landon Donovan is kinda funny as his side kick it’s almost like he’s jealous he can’t play anymore and you can hear it in his little snide remarks. Got to see the first goal and the crowd pop that ensued and even though it was just a little taste of what’s in store it got the juices flowin! I’m fired tf up this is gonna be such a blast!!

Quite a feisty start to this World Cup, but it wasn’t a bad one. I have to imagine both sets of supporters were thinking back to 2010 when South Africa drew Mexico and scored the first goal of the tournament. It took 16 years, but Mexico finally achieved their revenge as they just simply outclassed South Africa. It already wasn’t looking good considering how long it took South Africa to even get a shot, let alone a shot on goal, but watching them give he ball away to concede the first goal of the game made it even worse. Shoutout to Lira for controlling the midfield and creating the first goal of the tournament. At halftime, it looked bleak for South Africa, it only took 5 minutes for it to look hopeless when Sithole received the first red of the tournament and left South Africa with 10 men. We got a nice feel-good moment with Jimenez in-between a ton of animosity and 2 more red cards, setting the record for most red cards in a World Cup opener. Hopefully if only goes up from here.

Fun start to the world cup with three reds but Mexico really just turned this into a practice session cause South Africa could not compete at all. Also I HATE THE COOLING BREAKS it's a terrible and I will continue to rant about it as it's MANDATORY even when it is a cool temperature so there is no reason for it, all because of the Americanization of this event. With the 3 minute break it's basically turned a game that only has one break in-between (at halftime) into a game with 4 quarters and three breaks. This would be less of a problem IF ADS DIDN'T PLAY THE WHOLE TIME ( which is the only reason they made the cooling break mandatory) also unsure if im right, but in the Tubi broadcast it felt like they were playing the ads into the game for a couple seconds, which if true I believe will lead to at least one goal in this tournament being missed because of ads.

Absolute cinema start to the World Cup. A beautiful save by South Africa’s goalkeeper immediately, but Quinones scored in the 9th minute. We saw a wild ride of red cards. 2 for South Africa, and then one for Mexico as well. This game really finished out 9v10. Never seen that before (I’ve watched soccer for a month). And in the 67th minute, Raul scored his first World Cup goal. It’s his 4th World Cup, he’s battled through injuries, that terrible skull injury, you wondered if he would ever play again. Hell, it was unlikely he would even live. But he somehow, someway came back to soccer and now scores his first career World Cup goal. Absolutely beautiful story. Great start to the World Cup. I’m so glad I’ve recently started to get into soccer because this is awesome. USA still winning it though of course.

Very exciting first game of the 2026 World Cup. Absolute dominance from Mexico. South Africa was terrible. No other way to put it. Insane three red cards in the second half. Williams played well in goal for South Africa but the rest of the team sucked. Mora got in and had some chances. I hope the refs will not be as strict in the future because that was kinda ridiculous on the Mexican red card. This group is going to be fun! So so so so so much more drama to come. It’s only game one! Long way to go, let’s get ready for game two in a couple hours. Mexico wins!

Rating this higher than I should (so it’s a green) only because I absolutely love the lore of Mexico winning the first World Cup game in Mexico. 10/10 but sorry not rating it a 10. What happened to South Africa bro… jet lag??? That felt sleepy.

Mexico could’ve gotten more goals here especially with the red cards being thrown.
