Late night World Cup baby and it was worth it! Australia put Turkey down under near the bottom of the group with this performance. They were hitting on all cylinders. In the first half their speed on the counter was catching Turkey on their heels. There was no better embodiment of that than Nestory Irankunda. Turkey had nobody who could stay in front of his speed and dribbling ability and it eventually cost the Turks dearly. Irankunda went on a run, cut inside and blasted home Australia’s first goal. Australia kept the barrage going until the end of the 1st half and switched up their motives in the 2nd half. Turkey remained relentless on their own attack, getting plenty of shots so Australia became more picky with their decision to counter and it paid off as not only did they valiantly hold off Turkey, they even got a 2nd goal thanks to Metcalfe. Australia was very entertaining throughout the game while Turkey gave us example #765 why we can’t ever trust Turkey as a supposed dark horse

I completely forgot this game was happening last night and I woke up at like the 60th minute like “oh shit Aussies are up by 1”? But I could not be bothered to turn on the tv and watch the game😂😭from the highlights it looks like the Aussie GK had the game of his life and Turkey just couldn’t finish any of their chances. Good win for Australia and wow this makes Group D so interesting now

You gotta love upsets man. Australia played their hearts out. Turkiye could not come up with any points off of 30 shots. Group D is a lot stronger than I previously thought.

I should have gone with my gut. Deep down inside of me I knew Australia was going to win. Turkey took way way to many shot outside the box. They probably took 10 long shots. They did have their chances but they never went down. The Australian goal keeper played great and definitely kept his team in the game. Some clutch goal scoring both Australia to put the game away late in the match. I watched soccer for 10 hours and 56 minutes yesterday. I can’t wait to do it again today. It’s the World Cup everyone.

First World Cup game I didn't watch, but looking up the score this morning I was surprised to see Australia had taken down Turkey. I thought Australia would by far be the worst team in Group D, but they proved me wrong in this one, finding their way up to 2nd in the group, technically tied for first, after one game. I do still see the USA winning by 2+ against Australia on Friday, and honestly, I still think Paraguay beats Australia. Great win for them though to get some momentum. On the other hand, Turkey needs to turn things around. I expected more of them. At this point, they need a resounding win against Paraguay and likely at least a draw against the USA to make it to the knockout rounds, but I think even a draw against the USA is unlikely, especially after this performance.

Well the lads from the land down under come through at B.C. Place with a 2-0 victory. Unlike the Brazil Match both half’s were fun. Also my new goal is to rate every WC match. Also Aussies put your shirts on eh buds?

UPSET ALERT!! Man I thought Turkey was one of the better young teams in this World Cup but what an outing by the Aussies. First goal was a thing of beauty on a counter-attack. Mbappe style long ball to pass the defender and score with a hard shot to the bottom of the net. This group gets VERY close now. Gonna be interesting to see what happens when they play the U.S. next

The Aussies came in with a surprise, turkey was dominating most of the match but the aussies took any open chances to score.

PAC-12 after dark: World Cup Edition! Australia was truly a joy to watch. The team chemistry was so easy to see, I really enjoyed seeing their build up play with the long through balls, shots outside of the box, and working hard in their own final third. And they did not flop once the entire game so Australia are the most watchable team I’ve seen so far. On the other side turkey just looked nervous as if the moment was too big for the young batch of players. They asked too much out of Guler he had no support when they did get into Australias final third.
