I’m just blown away he showed us everything tonight the long shots the dribbling the iq. Another true Messi classic tonight. I was a little disappointed in Algeria tonight however, they didn’t have the ball much and when they did they asked few questions of Argentina. Argentina had control of this game most of the way despite Algeria’s valiant resistance. However, there will be 1 man on everyone’s lips after this game. At the risk of sounding too complimentary, I have watched Messi for so long and he keeps finding new ways to surprise me. At the age of 38, turning 39 next Wednesday (June 24th), Messi scored a hat trick in a vintage performance. The first one was a powerful shot the keeper couldn’t stop, the next was him being in the right spot at the right time to pounce on a mistake and the third one was a perfectly placed shot. He is just phenomenal. It wasn’t just the goals. He was the engine for Argentina and galvanized the team to victory just as much with his passing as he did his goalscoring. Aside from him, the entire Argentinian team was so composed. Never panicking and always ready. They clearly learned from their mistakes back in 2022. With all that being said, this was still a blowout. Doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the greatness.

And to keep up with this trend of the 2026 WC being absolutely unpredictable, one game after I make the call that Haaland with a Norway run could break Just Fontaine’s World Cup goal record with 2 today, Messi comes through with a hatty on a team that most people believe could make a deep run. Outside of an offside goal from Algeria that was taken off the board Argentina dominated the game and I feel like the story of the tournament for Argentina at this point is not only can they make a run at the World Cup, but can Messi break Fontaines record and cement himself as the goat with that record and back to back World Cup wins when he turns 39 in 8 days. God it’s so nice to be here to witness this

Watching the Spanish broadcast of this game was hilarious you could tell they loved Messi! I couldn't understand 99% of the things they were saying but it was peak nonetheless
