Straight haramball in the first half. Game picked up a little the second half but ended nil-nil and just was a very bad game. Both teams were just trying to get their point to advance. And they both got the point. Australia finishes second in the group. Interested to see how both fair in the next round.

A game that certainly happened. Both teams content to just chill back and make their way into the knockout stage. They know they have to score to be successful in the knockout stage right?

This might as well be exhibit A on why the head-to-head being the first tiebreaker in group play is not a good idea. Neither Paraguay or Australia needed a win, but it would be nice. However, a point was also gonna be very beneficial as it would practically guarantee both teams a spot in the knockouts. This game played out like both teams knew it. When FIFA made the change to head-to-head being the first tiebreaker, I didn’t have a problem with it. On the surface, it feels like the most sensible way to settle ties in groups and could encourage teams to go for the win instead of the draw against each of their opponents. However, in practice, it gives us scenarios like this and the combination with the expanded field makes this problem even more prominent. I don’t doubt that either side wanted to win this game, they certainly showed that in the final few minutes, but the 90 minutes before that was full of slow cautious play. It’s a shame, because this could’ve been a great matchup.

Terrible, both teams didn't want to make any mistakes throughout the game. Just passing back and forth and back and forth. Almost as if it were a training or a game of keep away. Insanely boring and this game needed lot more. If any of these 2 teams want to make a deep run they need to never play like that again.

this match is the use case to present to FIFA as to why the new tiebreak being head-to-head instead of goal differential is bad for the product. Two countries playing keep away for 90 minutes is no fun for anyone.

I understand why the ratings are so low lmao but we’re through to the next round and hopefully any team but Belgium (even though they look pretty poor).

Holy shit this was a hard watch. I’m VERY glad I had USA v Turkyie on my laptop cause this was a snooze fest. Neither team was capable of finishing any chance. Both teams had multiple grade-A chances in their opponents box, and the best they could muster is a weak shot towards the keeper. Blasphemous football.

Boooo, no more head-to-head tiebreaker. Ruining the 3rd game of the group stage because of it. Very similar situation in the Algeria and Austria game!
