This is the Ecuador I was expecting, stingy and opportunistic. Had they played like this during their other games, they could’ve won this group. Fortunately, this win has saved their run and they will likely qualify for the knockout stage. It wasn’t looking good for them early in this game. Germany scored basically immediately, granted, under dubious circumstances, but it was a horrible start regardless. Then, Ecuador remembered that you’re supposed to score goals in football as Angulo fired it home to give Ecuador their first goal of the tournament. Perhaps he could give Enner Valencia lessons, (half-kidding).
Ecuador didn’t get many chances after that, particularly in the first half, but they formed a sturdy wall Germany couldn’t break through. That continued in the 2nd half, but the Germans left themselves vulnerable for counters. It gave us an intense game with Ecuador’s crowd cheering them on. Plata made it all worth it when he beat Neuer to the ball and gave Ecuador the win.

First of all, the Refs need to figure out what is going on. Though the German goal was good in the first couple of minutes, how is that not a high kick? The attacker's cleat clearly makes contact with the defender. In any other league that would end the play immediately. But, this is not the only game this has happened in, England vs Senegal, a tackle that ended a goal-scoring opportunity. Clearly a pen, but it wasn't called. The defender didn't make any contact with the ball, only with the Attacker. What is going on? Anyways, this was a back-and-forth game that made for a good watch. Ecuador was able to upset the European Giants as they clinched their way towards the knockout round. Germany looked shaky throughout the game, and the way they play needs to be fixed if they want to 1. go far in the tournament and 2. win the whole thing.

Ecuador finally gets one behind the net & secure their qualification for the next round
Crazy start to the game with 2 goals within the first 12 minutes of the 1st half. Germany went up first and at first I thought it was gonna be a long night for Ecuador but they got organized and truly attacked most of the game as Germany had nothing to play for with 1st place secured already. Then off a miraculous corner, Ecuador gets their second and New Jersey goes insane as they deserved to make it through after such a great qualifiers for the World Cup. Ecuador will be looking to make some noise as a 3rd place team in the next round
