Another game decided by PKs. Netherlands really just didn't impress me very much. Gakpo scored a very nice goal but Morocco soon equalized. I expected Morocco to be a one year wonder in 2022 and they played much better than I expected against this Dutch squad.
At this point, extra time is just pointless. They just pass the ball around for 30 minutes and everyone is tired as hell. Just send it straight to penalties at this point.
The PK shootout crazy hits off the post and just another amazingly suspenseful shootout. Morocco's second shot was wild, saved, and he own goaled it. Just absolutely brutal. The third guys to go up, perfect composure and even more perfect shots. That right there is how you take a PK. Then a short run-up and a terrible miss wide left. That is how you do NOT take a PK. A perfect save on Summerville's attempt, his lack of PK experience showed. Saibari, blood on his face earlier, comes up clutch and says good night. Perfect PK shootout.

Another knockout game that comes with a goal in stoppage time and penalties. If this wasnāt such an entertaining recurring event, I would be mad. Moroccoās World Cup magic continues as they add to the Netherlandsās long legacy of pain. This game was much more consistently entertaining than Germany-Morocco while containing a stoppage time goal and a more whacky penalty shootout that ironically added to the drama. But before all that, it seemed like we were gonna a feel-good story. Cody Gakpo, hours before this game, announced that his girlfriend had a miscarriage. Understandably, he may have considered not playing and it wouldāve been understandable. Not only did he play, but he scored too. It was an emotional moment.
Unfortunately, in the same way googling āHakimi legal issueā ruins Moroccoās feel-good story, the Atlas Lions scored in the 90th minute to ruin Gakpoās. After a boring extra time, we got a penalty shootout full of misses and Morocco missed the least so they won. *gulp*

absolute halal ball. mazraoui and hakimi are ballers. morocco showed great spirit and conviction to get over the line against a very talented netherlands team, who was disappointing in their set up today.
for a match that shouldāve far more yellow cards, the ref still had a great match keeping the intensity of the game turned up for the whole match.

TWO footballing Giants eliminated today. Zlatan said it best: āThe Dutch did not lose with their identityā. They did not play as the Dutch team should, they missed chances, and of course the penalties. But, even moreso, props to Morocco for this performance. Bonou again showing how tough he is in goal during a penalty shootout. And ending to a divisive day of football.

Morocco survives! They controlled, no they basically dominated this game with 70% possession and lots of chances at goal. They gave up a counter attack goal in like the 70th minute to go down 1-0 but in the 90+1 we saw a absolutely fantastic header go right into the net then saw a cold stare right into the crowed. The Morocco supporters were clapping and singing all game, they were fantastic. The Netherlands were not themselves in this game. They played out of formation, lacked the ball, just overall lacked control. Speaking of control that ref had absolutely no control over this game. I was not impressed with his work at all. When the game went into penalties it seemed like the Netherlands were more confident. But, Morocco took. Penalty and it was saved but the Netherlands goalie kicked it in to his own goal on accident. I felt and feel so sick for that man. He was fantastic all game and for their tournament to basically end like that is awful. Fantastic game my personal favorite.

I mean lets be for real. This day was crazy. The Japan vs Brazil game even tho I rated it a 0.1 it was really good. All the games were insane today. I was rooting for Netherlands but of course they lose because the team I root for always loses. Who should I use the curse on next š

This will be the highest quality football we will see in the RO32. 6th in the world playing 7th in the world. Special game. I wont lie the 1st half was a bit of a snorer. But that 2nd half was great ball. The multiple terrific tackles made and what might be the save of the tournament from Verbuggen in extra time which was similar to Emi Martinez' in 22. Saved a certain goal. Cody Gakpo got the first goal in the 72nd minute from a wonderful pass from Summerville. It looked like they were going to advance but its the 2026 World Cup so it had to be crazy. Diop says lets play 30 more minutes with a header from a beautiful cross in the middle of the box. We went to penalties just like the game earlier today. And it was just as dramatic. Morocco missed the first penalty. But good for them Kluivert missed his. Rahimi was a bit lucky with his as it went in after Verbuggen saved it. He just couldnt hold on. Then 2 straight makes. Then 2 straight off the post. Summerville misses, Saibari makes

GAME OF THE TOURNAMENT! Are you kidding me???? Morocco outclassed the Netherlands but looked destined to lose until a late minute equalizer. Extra time saw one of the best saves Ive ever seen from Verbruggen. Penalties were insanity. Nobody could make. The pressure got to everyone, even Verbruggen who somehow failed to save the 2nd. Saibari was cool under pressure and finished an all time classic
