The clutchest team in the world of sports. Yet. Again. England held on for 80 minutes, but it was clear they were starting to bend, and they would soon break. Enzo Fernandez with two shots from outside the box to strike fear in Pickford, and the third time was the charm. And then just a couple minutes later, the greatest soccer player ever gave a perfect pass for a game winning header by Lautaro Martinez. No matter the situation they are in, Argentina comes up clutch. They did it against teams like Cabo Verde, Egypt, and Switzerland. They were called frauds. Are they still frauds now, or are they the most clutch team in the world? If you don’t answer the latter, you are wrong. My friends, I happily inform you, it is not coming home.

No matter what happens, no matter how dire the situation, no matter the opponent, Argentina keeps finding victories when nobody expects nor wants them to. The first half was a very mucky. Full of fouls and chippy play that paradoxically also zoomed by as it seemed like the first team to score would win it all. England got that first goal thanks to Anthony Gordon sneaking behind Argentina’s defence. Combine that with England’s backline that has proven repeatedly capable of hanging on to leads with Spence having the game of his life, it certainly felt like England could cruise. Instead, it immediately became clear that Argentina was going to score. A combination of letting Argentina have the ball, missed assignments and just poor defensive play, gave Argentina chance after chance. They could’ve easily scored minutes earlier, but a blast from Enzo Fernandez tied the game at 1 and Lionel Messi waved his magic wand, sent a perfect cross to Lautaro Martinez and he hit it home for the win.

Plus dumbass Tuchel decided to park the bus for 40 minutes and give unlimited space and time to LIONEL FUCKING MESSI!!! It’s unbelievable how good he is at 39, absolutely took over in the last 30 minutes. Deadass a privilege to watch that man play.
